Luminaries aglow on Christmas Eve 2009 in Highland Park.

The weather did us in last year, but it’s tradition. Time for the annual Highland Park Christmas luminary display! All neighbors are welcome to participate.

Free luminary supplies are available to Highland Park residents this Christmas. The Levelines at 436 Marcia Avenue, will provide bags and sand on December 22nd from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and again on December 23rd from Noon to 2:00 PM.

Luminary bags are available also at the Duricys, 668 Emerson Avenue. Just take as many bags as you need from the milk box to the left of the front door. Cardboard bottoms provided for a limited time. The box will be replenished through Christmas Eve. Sorry, no sand here.

Thank you for keeping Highland Park bright and beautiful year round. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

It’s Time for the HP Christmas Cereal Drive!

Once again, Highlander Scott Reynolds is heading up the Christmas Cereal Drive. The Cereal Drive provides boxes of cereal for students of Riverview Elementary to take home over during the holiday break. The poverty rate at Riverview is 94%, and breakfast is the only meal for many students while school is closed. Last year, Highland Park donated over 1,300 boxes of cereal. This year, 740 students are enrolled in the cereal program and 1,500 boxes of cereal are needed.

Highlanders are welcome to donate boxes of cereal at Scott’s house at 435 Marcia Avenue. If Scott is not at home, please leave the cereal on the front porch. The last day to donate cereal is December 19th. Thank you, and Happy Holidays!

Jack-o-Lanterns: Ten Years of a Halloween Tradition

Highland Park is the perfect Halloween neighborhood, and I live in the perfect Halloween house – no decorations needed. Each year, I carve multiple Jack-o-Lanterns to greet the trick-or-treaters. In this video, I share my favorite designs from the last decade. They’re spooky. They’re scary. They’re pumpkins that aren’t pumpkins. Press play and get the Halloween spirit. Remember, Trick or Treat is from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Halloween, October 31st!
